MOODLE

 

 Moodle is an acronym for "Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment". It is an online educational platform that provides custom learning environments for students. 
 Teachers can use Moodle to:
 - create lessons
 - manage courses
 - interact with teachers and students

WordItOut

 What is WordItOut? WordItOut is a word cloud generator. You can create word clouds from sentences, documants or tables. You can customise your own word clouds and you don't have to even sign up for the app. All you need to do is write down your text and the app will turn it to a word cloud. By looking at the words' size, you can understand which one is more used in the text because it will be larger than the others. I tried WordItOut. It is very user-friendly. I typed down one of my favourite quotes from the "Call Me By Your Name" book. It was: 

"We rip out so much ourselves to be cured of things faster then we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything - what a waste!"

The app gave me a word cloud for the quote. Here it is: 

EDMODO

Edmodo is an educational website. Using edmodo, teachers and students can reach one another easily. Teacher can see everything that is posted on Edmodo and this situation removes bad actions like bullying. On my prep year, my teacher asked for us to sign for Edmodo. Then she gave a group code which made all the classroom gather around in one page. She shared all the files on Edmodo throughout all year. Not just files, but you can also share pictures, videos and texts. You can leave comments on others' posts.

POWTOON

  

  With Powtoon, you can create an animated video so easily. It is a web-based animation software that allows you to create presentations. All you have to do is sign up and start making videos. You can add music and voice-overs. It is suitable for school environment. I used Powtoon for my vodcast. You can also watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52nNXUBII28




  Creating your own video looks just like this. You create slides one by one. You can add characters, dialogues and backgrounds that fit your content. It is user-friendly.

STORYBIRD

  

  What is storybird? Storybird is a language art tool. Storybirds are short, art-inspired stories you make to share, read and print. It is a collobrative storytelling website. How can we use this in classrooms? We can create a story about the subject and students can learn that in context. We can invite them via class code.

Pixton

  


  Pixton is a digital storytelling tool that helps students and educators to better communicate ideas in the fun, friendly format of the comics. 
 When you enter the site, you can easily create your own avatar. Then you can write your own story and put it in images. You can share your comics with others as well. 
  You can see the avatar that I created, down below. 

 I also created my first comic, too. It's called "To infinity and beyond...with a cat." I enjoyed making it.

Quizlet

 

   Quizlet is a mobile and web-based study application that allows students to study information via learning tools and games. It's been around since 2005. On the app, you can create your own study sets by adding images and the application is free!

Learning is more fun with Kahoot!

Hi!! 

 I'm back with an another app. Kahoot! is a free game-based learning platform. You can create your own game, too! You can do it for any subject, in any language, on any device. My teachers use it time to time and it is really entertaining. It has more than 1,000,000,000  players a year. 

                                                       

  

You can easily sign up and create your own trivia game or use a game pin to enter a kahoot! game. 

The Direct Method

Hi!! 

 Me and my friends(you can find their blogs on the right side of the blog), made a video about direct method. This is not a new method and it has one basic rule: no translation is allowed. Teacher should demonstrate, not explain or translate. Grammer should be taught inductively. In addition to that, students should learn to think in the target language. We used some techniques in our video. Those are: reading aloud, question and answer exercise, getting students to self-correct, conversation practice, and map drawing. We all pretend to be teachers and students one by one. I put the video on YouTube. I'll leave the link down below. You should check it out.

   Welcome to my new post. As you can see from the tittle, this post is about pinterest. Pinterest is social media network that allows users to share images. You can create your own board and share it with others. How can we link this to language learning?

  For example, when I search for "language learning" , this page opened. As you can see there are lots of pictures about language learning and tips about it. These are more colourful than students' course book. They seem like it is easy to learn that language. You can download the app on your phone and learn anywhere.

 Today, I made a vodcast. I used pawtoon to create the video and then I posted it on my youtube channel. My vodcast is about English acquisition in Turkey and why are we not speaking fluently although we learn it for years. I enjoyed making it, I hope you enjoy it as well.

WELCOME TO SECOND LIFE

  Hi!Second life is a virtual playground where you can create an avatar and do various things in this virtual world. In this picture you can see my avatar. I know she doesn't look like me but that's the fun of it. You can be anyone in this world from a zombie to a vampire. After creating an avatar, I wondered around and found few portals where you can enter an art gallery or a contert. I haven't tried those but I will on my next visit. I can't wait to find new things about the world and my avatar. See you on the next post!
